Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
Breadth of clinical experience. Strong support from program leadership. A program that allowed me to form strong relationships with my future colleagues in different specialties.

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
The #DukeFamily, independence to grow and learn; while also being supported in many ways, and having both the Duke and VA experiences.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
There is great support, mutual respect, and genuine excitement from the faculty when they come to work with the house staff. Makes for a wonderful place to work and learn.

What has surprised you most about Duke?
How down-to-earth and kind everyone I've met has been.

About Duke University and Durham

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Cost-of-living! Tons of foodie restaurants Lots of green all around! Very close to Chapel Hill and Raleigh - lots of different groups of professionals to meet!

How does the Triangle appeal to people of diverse backgrounds?
Being born and raised in a very non-diverse area, Durham has really helped me learn more about people from all different backgrounds. I love this area, and plan to have a family around here so my children will also have the amazing experience of getting to live and work with people from a diverse background.

Where did you choose to live and why?
We chose to live in a townhouse in Durham. We wanted a place to live while we moved down for intern year before finding a house to buy. It is 7 min drive from campus, and it's a perfect location for us.

What are your interest outside of medicine?
Powerlifting, Video Games, Hiking, Biking, Traveling
