Reflections on the Duke Program
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a well-ranked program where I could see a variety of neurological cases. I want to leave residency with enough knowledge to be a great generalist. I also wanted to find people I could relate to and share the next four years with.
What are the strengths of the Duke program?
Definitely the name is a big one! People come from all over the eastern US to go to Duke, so we get to see many interesting cases. In addition, the people are some of the nicest you will meet.
What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
The relationships between faculty and house staff seem amazing. I haven't met a single member of the faculty that I haven't liked.
Tell us about your co-interns. How long did it take to connect?
There are a lot of us, so we're still working on meeting everybody, but there have been multiple events that started weeks before orientation!
What has surprised you most about Duke?
How big it is! I didn't remember how huge it was when I interviewed.
