UNC Chapel Hill

What are your career goals?
Possibly pulm/critical care, cardiology, or hospitalist medicine

What did you do the summer before internship?
My wife and I had a fantastic time traveling to south east Asia for our honeymoon

Durham is a town that's a great combination of affordable and accessible while still offering a tremendous hospital and research university.

Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a program that would push me to develop into a strong clinician, where I would be able to work alongside strong and supportive fellow residents, and where there would be ample opportunities for research and teaching.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
I've been impressed with the focus on teaching among all the attendings that I have worked with so far. Both in the hospital and in clinic, the faculty have made an effort to improve my understanding and identify salient learning points.

Tell us about your co-interns. How long did it take to connect?
We started texting almost immediately after match day and have obviously been in touch since then. It's been great to have such a friendly and smart group of colleagues. As you go though intern year, it's important to have a group of co-interns you know will look out for and support you.

About Duke University and Durham

What's best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Durham is a town that's a great combination of affordable and accessible while still offering a tremendous hospital and research university. The restaurants (and ice cream) are delicious. There are running trails trails near the hospital and down town for when you need a quick break from the hospital. It's about 20 minutes to Chapel Hill and Raleigh if you're looking for more places to explore, and it's close enough for weekend trips to the beach or the mountains.
