What are your career goals?

As a nephrologist, I would like to be at the forefront championing the recognition of kidney disease as a global burden and prioritizing efforts that integrate CKD screening and management into non-communicable disease programs.

What were you looking for in a fellowship program?

I have an interest in global health and I was looking for a program with opportunities to get involved in global-health related projects. I was also looking for a strong clinical training in a welcoming and friendly environment and the Duke program provided me with all of these.

Which Scholar pathway did you choose and why?

I am currently deciding between the Clinical Investigator pathway and the Clinical Concentration pathway, both of which would afford me an opportunity to participate in global health research. One of the attractions to the Duke program is the flexibility in the curriculum to allow you forge a path that works best for you and is aligned with your career goals.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

Flexible curriculum, strong clinical training, friendly faculty and fellows!

What have you liked about living in Durham/RTP?

I am from Raleigh and I must say that the Raleigh-Durham area has grown tremendously over the past decade or so. What I like most about this area is being able to have the city “feel” without the hustle-and-bustle (or expense!) of living in a large metropolitan city. There are activities for those who like the outdoors, the arts, sports, the restaurant/bar scene, etc.

What advice would you give about moving to Durham/RTP?

Explore! There are lots to experience – explore singles/couples events, art gallery events, performing arts theater events, outdoor events, shopping areas, etc. Just explore.
