Reflections on the Duke program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a program with excellent clinical training, caring for complex patients, and career development for residents.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
The people at Duke are great. Co-interns and residents are enjoyable to work with, while program leadership is dedicated to making resident development a priority. Directors and chief residents welcome feedback, open conversation, and take direct action that makes us feel valuable.

About Duke University and Durham

Where did you choose to live, and why?
I chose to live in the American Tobacco district/downtown Durham. I was looking for a place in close walking distance to a variety of food, attractions, and culture.

Based on your life, what advice do you give about moving to Durham?
Don't rule out Durham if it's just because you want the lifestyle of a big city. Coming from Chicago, I was concerned I might be missing out on restaurants, events, etc. But Durham has big city amenities and the convenience to go to them. There are frequently shows (including traveling Broadway), sports games, or events within walking distance. On the other side, there's nature within short driving distance for a hike or run.
