Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a program that would support my desire for targeted learning opportunities and work with me to build them if they didn't exist.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
The Duke leadership will bend over backwards to help you make your personal life work with your work life. They are really serious about the Duke family!

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
The faculty are amazing teachers and really value the house staff's input!

Tell us about your co-interns. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
I have immediately felt at home with my co-interns. It is so nice to be around so many amazing people who all love medicine and care deeply about patients!

What has surprised you most about Duke?
How good the food is at noon conference!

About Duke University and Durham

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Life is so easy here! Everything is really close and easily accessible.

How does the Triangle appeal to people of diverse backgrounds?
I have been very impressed with the diversity of restaurants and grocery stores in the area!

Where did you choose to live and why?
I am living in an apartment in South Durham so that I don't have to worry about taking care of a home in addition to being a resident.

What advice would you give to someone looking to move to Durham?
Don't be afraid to live a bit further away from the hospital! Everything is so close and there are some great options a bit further out.

What are your interests outside of medicine?
I love everything your grandmother loves - cats, tea, knitting, reading, and collecting pottery!
