Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a program that would provide me with a great learning experience. Additionally for me, location was a priority, and I couldn't be happier with my experience this far at Duke.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
The co-interns, residents, attendings, pharmacists, nurses, etc. Also the breadth of medical conditions.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
I was pleasantly surprised about the team atmosphere that is portrayed from the top down. Everyone is viewed as a valued member of the team.

Tell us about your co-interns. How long did it take to connect?
Everyone bonded almost instantly. Duke definitely attracted interns with great personalities.

What has surprised you most about Duke?
How beautiful the Duke Medicine Pavilion is.

About Duke University and Durham

What's best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
I have lived in Chapel Hill for 8+ years now and have enjoyed living in the Triangle to stay for at least several more years, if not long-term. Not too far from the beach or the mountains, with 2 good sized cities (Durham and Raleigh) with a unique college town (Chapel Hill and adjacent Carrboro) in one location. There is fun outdoor activities, good eateries, and some awesome college basketball.

What do you like to do outside of medicine?
Spend time with my wife (and my cat), cook, exercise, play board games with friends.
