Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
The two main factors I considered when applying to residency programs were planning for a fellowship in Cardiology and the fact that I participated in the couples match. In terms of planning for fellowship, Duke has incredible opportunities for research and mentorship in the cardiology sub-specialties I am hoping to pursue. For the couples match, the program was extremely positive not only about matching us together, but also in going out of their way to sync our schedules.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
The faculty are amazing! They are experts in their fields, but are always approachable and excited to hear about your interests and ideas.

Tell us about your co-interns. How long did it take to connect?
Two seconds... or about as long as it takes to shake hands.

What has surprised you most about Duke?
How often I’m able to sneak in a “Go Heels” to patients wearing Carolina gear in the hospital.

About Duke University and Durham

What's best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
It’s a growing city but still feels close-knit. Coming from Atlanta, I love that I can find great restaurants and bars but don’t have to deal with traffic. I love going to Durham Bulls games with my co-residents and walking through Duke Gardens.

Where did you choose to live, and why?
Ninth street, because it is walkable to restaurants and shops but also a 5-minute drive into the hospital.

What do you like to do outside of medicine?
Exercise and cook!
