What are your career goals?
Richard is a MD/Ph.D. trained physician-scientist currently completing his preliminary medicine year at Duke University Hospital before starting his ophthalmology residency training program at Duke Eye Center. Building upon his graduate work in drug discovery from Johns Hopkins University, Richard developed novel gene and cell therapy strategies targeting hereditary errors of development while completing his Ph.D. at UCLA. As a recipient of the prestigious Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award, Richard gained extensive experience managing complex projects requiring collaborations with specialists from outside disciplines. Ultimately, Richard would like to leverage his skillsets and training to assemble diverse teams of experts from business, medicine, engineering, law, and the social sciences to tackle the grand challenge of delivering cutting-edge therapeutics capable of overcoming compliance barriers to medically underserved populations .
