What are your career goals?
Hopefully some combination of medicine and peds that allows me to have great continuity with my patients!

What did you do the summer before internship?
Traveled & spent time with family and friends!

The residents and faculty are dedicated to building each other up, helping out when you need a break, and challenging you to expand your knowledge base and clinical skills.

Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
A program with equally strong medicine and pediatrics departments and one with a dedicated med-peds clinic. But mostly I was looking for a place I felt where the program and residents made you feel like you were already at home on interview day.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
Duke Family! The residents and faculty are dedicated to building each other up, helping out when you need a break, and challenging you to expand your knowledge base and clinical skills.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
Wonderful - everyone's opinions are heard and respected. House staff get a lot out of the daily teaching that happens on rounds.

Tell us about your co-interns. How long did it take to connect?
0.1 seconds! The med-peds cointerns bonded (over food) super quickly and we continue to hang out almost on a weekly basis if we can. I also felt immediately integrated into both categorical programs - everyone is kind, excited to get to know each other, and frequently plans hang outs!

What has surprised you most about Duke?
How easy it has been to get into the groove of things in the hospital.

About Duke University and Durham

What's best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
FOOD. There are so many excellent places to eat, a variety of menu options, and fun venues to check out! The Durham Bulls games are great (and cheap)! And there are so many beautiful places to run/hike in the Triangle too!

Where did you choose to live, and why?
I chose to live in an apartment downtown to be able to walk to places to eat, baseball games, the parks and to be a 5 minute drive from work!

Based on your life, what advice would you give about moving to Durham?
Apartment hunt early! Places go quickly in the spring.

What do you like to do outside of medicine?
I love to run and go out to eat or cook with friends!
