Anton has been communications director for the Department of Medicine since 2010. He joined Duke in 2007.
He is a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Institutional Advancement.
Anton earned a master’s degree in medical journalism from the School of Media and Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where his thesis reporting project was a 12,000-word narrative magazine feature on a rise in HIV among college students in North Carolina.
A longtime blogger and an early adopter of social media, Anton was co-founder of ScienceOnline, an organization that promoted science connections and community. He previously organized the “Weblogs and Journalism” seminar for N.C. journalists, the UNC “Narratives of HIV” series of media awareness events in Spring 2004, the Triangle Bloggers Conference in 2005. He also has organized events around food blogging, community building, and storytelling, including the Voices of Duke Health listening booth and podcast project.
Anton spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu, where he organized a multi-island solar electrification project.
