Minority Recruitment and Retention

Duke University is an equal opportunity employer with a commitment to a workplace that reflects our diverse community.

Our faculty, fellows, and housestaff include members of various minority groups. The Department of Medicine's interest is based upon a commitment to excellence and leadership in all areas of medical care, medical education, and medical research -- a mission that we believe cannot be achieved without the participation of minority men and women. The Minority Recruitment and Retention Committee (MRRC)

The MRRC is composed of faculty, fellows, housestaff, and medical students who work closely with the Vice Chair for Faculty Development and Diversity, and with the Department’s housestaff selection committee.

The MRRC provides career mentoring, leadership development, and social networking for minority faculty and trainees. In addition, the MRRC sponsors outstanding minority visiting faculty for the George Phillips, Jr., MD, and Martin Luther King, Jr. lectureships.

Medical Student Visiting Clinical Scholars Program

The Visiting Medical Student Program enriches both Duke University School of Medicine and the visiting medical student. Applicants must be in good academic standing and actively progressing toward a Doctor of Medicine degree, and receive academic credit by the home school, at an LCME accredited institution, a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at an COCA accredited institution, or an approved/affiliated international institution.

Read a brochure (PDF, 262 KB) and fill out an application. Please note visiting scholars are accepted on a rolling basis.
