From the Director

Happy 2021! Midpoint of the academic year and clearly a milestone to put 2020 in the rearview. As always, tremendous thanks to all of you for your commitment and dedication to outstanding care of your patients, as well as your unwavering support of each other and the whole DukeFam. I hope everyone was able to get some rest/relaxation over the holiday schedule. It’s busy everywhere across all of the hospitals and is likely to be so for the next few months, so just know that we will be continuing to collaborate, advocate, and communicate with our colleagues across the health system as we navigate the next few months.

Recruitment is back in full force! We can bring it home strong through the month of January as we all work to bring in an amazing class of new interns for July 2021. Many thanks to all for your participation.

Kudos
Kudos from over the break to Matt Abbott from Dr. Dinushika Mohottige for going above and beyond on nephrology consults, to Cam Strong and Michelle Ferreira for working overtime on a particularly high census, and Jen Dziwis and Damarcus Ingram for being super supportive of their colleagues by taking on a couple of their patients to help even out the censuses on the two teams (from Dr. Laura Caputo), to Lena Eder from Payton Kendsersky for a much needed hand in the VA CICU/VA Cards Consults, to Deborah Rose for going above and beyond in the CICU from Zach Lorsch, to Sean Chen, Alex Reddy, Nathaniel Harris and Lonnie Sullivan for teaching and general greatness on DRH Nights (from Omar Martinez Uribe), to Matt Abbott for recognizing a STEMI in a patient on the floor (from Mike Cosiano), to Cassie Lautredou for the most epic work rounds ever (from Emory Buck), to Aman Kansal, Katie Shpanskaya and Sith Sekar for being an amazing VA team (from Sarah Greene), to Saad Atiq and Nathan Brajer for excellent cross cover (from Sith Sekar), to James Helzberg for fearless team leadership (from Priyanka Patel).
