From the Director

Its MAY! And Eid Mubarak to those who are celebrating.  I am not sure I have been A and O x 4 but trying to keep up with the speed that the end of the year keeps flying by.  We have a rain date scheduled for the SAR Bowl (May 15), group photos today (!), are making progress on our Stepping in 4 Respect training for rising JARs, and scheduling those end of year meetings with Dr Hargett and me for the interns and SARs…plus an upcoming chief picnic, LHSTP presentations, resident research grand rounds, chief grand rounds, a basketball game, May Res-i-teering and more!   Thanks to Dani Zipkin for planning the PWIM Duke Gardens walk this weekend ..check out Twitter for some great pics!

Reminders to please send any credentialing paperwork for new jobs/fellowships to Bridget and me, to make sure Tia has your Step 3 scores if you haven’t already sent them in (JARs and any interns who have taken it), to fill out your evaluation requests (“resident identify supervisor”) and to go into Medhub and sign your contract when it shows up!

Kudos

Kudos this week to our Resident Research Day Califf Award speakers AD Khatri, Sukrit Jain and Audrey Zhang! Can’t wait to hear your work at grand rounds! Other kudos to JR Peacock for a fantastic SAR talk, to Megan Barrett for a super Cohen Conference, to Jo Cavalier, SeaBass Franco, Emilio Guzman Cisneros and Ryan Duffy for their Lincoln Community Health Center volunteer leadership this year and to Sam Curtis, Shannon McGue, and Sarah Morgan for taking on the leadership for next year, to Shelief Robbins-Juarez and David Bader from Sachi Oshima for being fantastic Duke GM team members, to my team of Lauren Pinion, Drew Vista and David Elliott for making me superfluous with their awesome patient care, and to Corbin Ester and Katelyn Seale from Sarah Morgan for teamwork on 9300.

Pubmed from the Program

This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Komal Safdar for her publication with mentor Dr Matt Sparks

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
