The Duke Outpatient Clinic holds virtual orientation for new interns

The Duke Outpatient Clinic was excited to welcome a new cohort of Duke Internal Medicine residents.  July 2020 brings us the annual thrill of 20 new categorical interns, one new Medicine Psychiatry resident, and a new group of preliminary-year interns.  But we’ve never really had a year like 2020 before...

For the first time, we held a virtual orientation on June 26th to give our new interns a flavor for the clinic.  The interns were also able to view a virtual walk-through of the clinic, via a 12-minute video produced by Dr. Daniella Zipkin.  Three of our current residents joined the Zoom meeting to share their own experiences of what it’s like to practice at the DOC (thanks Katherine Hutchins, Lonnie Sullivan, and Joyce Hwang).

June 29th marked the beginning of clinic for new interns, and we held the first of multiple small-group orientations. Intern’s first days are staggered over the next 6 weeks as they rotate in for their first clinic sessions.  What a privilege to work with this group of bright, hard-working, newly-masked and ready-for-action physicians for the next stage of their medical journeys!
