Where did you attend college/university?
University of Colorado

Where did you attend medical school?
University of Colorado

What are your career goals?
I want to be an academic cardiologist. I'm most interested in interventional and HF.

What did you do the summer before internship?
My wife and I had a baby in April before intern year, so I spent nearly all of my free time with my wife and daughter adjusting to parenthood.

My attendings have been very supportive of my status as a brand new intern, while still giving me the autonomy I need to grow as a trainee.

Reflections on the Duke program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I knew that I wanted to become a cardiologist so I had specific criteria related to that goal. I wanted to be in a program with strong clinical training and lots of cards exposure. I wanted to be in a place with ample research opportunities. Finally, I wanted a program with a reputation for matching their residents in top cardiology programs.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
I felt that Duke had all of the things I was looking for in a program. Good training, lots of research opportunities and a record of great fellowship matches. I also liked that Durham is a smaller town. My wife and I didn't want to move to a big city with a high cost of living, lots of traffic, etc.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
I have had great experiences with the faculty so far. My attendings have been very supportive of my status as a brand new intern, while still giving me the autonomy I need to grow as a trainee.

About Duke University and Durham

What's best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Low cost of living, relatively no traffic, and hopefully Google Fiber coming soon

Parting thoughts?
Duke was my top choice and at ~2 months in, I am very happy to have matched here!
