Career and Research Goals

I have a background in caring for refugees and am pursuing fellowship in infectious diseases at Duke in order to expand my global health work from a clinical focus to broader public health and research activity. I also have an interest in data science and machine learning, and would like to use big data to inform best practices in humanitarian medical intervention.

Honors, awards and distinctions

  • Alaska Native Medical Center Gold Star Hand Washing Award, 2018

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

Duke has an enormous amount of institutional resources, but the infectious diseases division still feels close-knit. I chose to train here because I knew I would be exposed to world-class care, a huge breadth of clinical pathology, as well as personalized mentorship from faculty. From transplant to global health, the clinical and academic opportunities are exceedingly diverse, and the atmosphere for learning is robust.
