The Department of Medicine is delighted to announce the winning Chair’s Research Awards proposals for 2022.  

The June 29, 2021 session of Duke Medicine LEADS featured a presentation led by Kathleen Cooney, MD, MACP, "Embedding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion into the Culture, Training, and Healthcare of the Department of Medicine." Cooney was joined by co-presenters, Genzton Hall, MD, PhDKimberley Evans, MD, Julius Wilder, MD, PhD, Jane Gagliardi, MD, MHS, FACP, DFAPA, John Duronville, MD, and Daniella Zipkin, MD.

Kathleen Cooney, MD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine, Manesh Patel, MD, chief of the Division of Cardiology, and Vance Fowler, MD, MHS, are among 12 faculty who have been recognized with Distinguished Professorships from the School of Medicine in 2020.

New research by Kathleen Cooney, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine, finds a link between hereditary prostate cancer and family history of breast and ovarian cancer.

Nelson Chao, MD, MBA, has served as the chief for the Division of Cellular Therapy since 1996, and for the expanded Division of Hematologic Malignancies & Cellular Therapy since 2013. At the same time, Dr. Chao also has served as leader of the Hematologic Malignancies & Cellular Therapy Research Program for the Duke Cancer Institute (DCI). 

​Kathleen Cooney, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine, has agreed to serve as a member of the Board of Scientific Consultants of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

The Duke Office of Licensing and Ventures has recognized 31 women who are innovative, collaborative, forward-thinking, and strong leaders on the cutting edge of technology and therapeutics. Among them are five faculty from the Department of Medicine: Martha Adams, MD; Kim Blackwell, MD; Kathleen Cooney, MD; Jennifer Freedman, MD; and Lori Orlando, MD.

The Duke Center for Applied Genomics & Precision Medicine will host Kathleen Cooney, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine, at its forum from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 in DMP 2W96.

Dean Mary Klotman, MD, has announced today that Kathleen Cooney, MD, will be the new chair of the Department of Medicine, effective Aug. 1, 2018.
