Charles and Mehedint promoted to Assistant Professor

Congratulations to two general internal medicine (GIM) faculty who received promotions to Assistant Professor. These promotions were approved by the Duke University Board of Trustees during their meeting held August 18, 2023.

GIM welcomes two new members

Duke General Internal Medicine is proud to welcome two new members this month, one faculty member and one staff member. 

Jonathan Huang, MD - Hospitalist

Dr. Huang joins us from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he completed his Internal Medicine residency program. He now joins us as a Hospitalist at Duke Regional Hospital.

2023 GIM Excellence Awards

The division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) announces the 8th annual Excellence Awards to honor the outstanding achievements of our division's faculty and staff members in clinical care, education, research, implementation, and professionalism. This year, we added two new award categories!

Dr. Pignone Named Inaugural Vice Chair for Quality and Innovation

Michael Pignone, MD, MPH, chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, will join the Duke Department of Medicine as the inaugural vice chair for quality and innovation, and serve as faculty within the Division of General Internal Medicine effective November 1.

Meet the New Chief Residents

The beginning of each new academic year is exciting and unique in its own way. I have spent the last three months cultivating a vision for faculty development by listening to faculty  across our department. As a member of the Faculty Development Academy (FDA) in 2011, I understand the importance of initiatives that provide support for faculty to be successful.


Women's History Month Reflections: Essays by Women in Medicine

Women's History Month is a time for learning about the past and looking to the future. These essays reflect a sub-theme of the challenges women in medicine still face today - and what they are grateful for in their professional journeys. While we celebrate the women of medicine in March, listening to their voices helps us all better understand ourselves and how we can all make a difference in the struggle for equality.

2023 Residency Match Day Results Announced

The Duke Internal Medicine Residency Program and the Duke Department of Medicine congratulate newly matched medical students who participated in the 2023 National Resident Matching Program.  We are especially excited to welcome our newest intern class! Women in Internal Medicine

As we recognize Women’s History Month, I would like to share some personal reflections on the gender evolution in academic departments of internal medicine over the past 20 years.  As one of the most senior women in our department, I have lived through these changes and am excited to see the progress we have made in establishing gender balance.
