Charles and Mehedint promoted to Assistant Professor

Congratulations to two general internal medicine (GIM) faculty who received promotions to Assistant Professor. These promotions were approved by the Duke University Board of Trustees during their meeting held August 18, 2023.

Katie Charles, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine, effective May 1, 2023 

Dr. Charles joined our GIM faculty in 2019 with primary clinical duties within the Hospital Medicine program at the Durham VA. Since then, Dr. Charles has demonstrated a dedication to outstanding scholarship as a clinician educator of internal medicine trainees. She has facilitated case conferences for interns, taught as a scan coach during a one-week point of care ultrasound (POCUS) course for interns, and led a recurring lecture series on managing alcohol withdrawal in the hospital for interns and second-year medical students.  Dr. Charles also gave a recurring lecture on “Balancing Supervision and Autonomy on the Wards,” to academic VA centers across the country as a part of an award-winning faculty development program.

Diana Mehedint, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine, effective June 1, 2023

Dr. Mehedint joined our division in August 2019 where her primary clinical duties have been with the Hospital Medicine Division in Duke University Hospital. Since her appointment, she has taught numerous students and residents during their Internal Medicine inpatient rotations. She is consistently evaluated as an exceptional teaching attending. Dr. Mehedint has also published 18 articles and has had 23 poster presentations.
