Bhavsar elected as AHA Fellow

Nrupen Bhavsar, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, has been elected a Fellow with the American Heart Association (AHA). The AHA Fellowship honors members for their scientific and professional accomplishments. The AHA states, “Fellowship is open to physicians, scientists, nurses and other healthcare professionals with a major and productive interest in cardiovascular disease and stroke.”

Dr. Bhavsar’s research portfolio includes methodological expertise in the design and analysis of observational studies that leverage data from cohort studies, registries, and the electronic health record (EHR). His NHLBI K01 aims to understand the impact of missing data when conducting cardiovascular disease research using EHR and claims data across multiple health systems. He has additional applied experience in using real-world data across multiple chronic conditions, including oncology, chronic pain, pulmonology, and chronic kidney disease. In parallel, he has a portfolio of research that aims to understand the impact of social and environmental drivers of health (SDOH) by linking extent SDOH data - including census data, air pollution, built environment and residential history data – to EHR data. His research, along with multiple initiatives within DGIM and the CTSI that he leads, aim to advance the field of social informatics.
