DUHS unveils Maestro Care intranet for updates about EHR implementation

By Anton Zuiker
Earlier today, Chancellor Victor Dzau, MD and DUHS Executive Vice President William Fulkerson, Jr., MD sent a memo to Duke Medicine staff to share an update about the deployment of a DUHS-wide electronic health record (EHR). See DUHS Board Approves Duke Medicine IT Infrastructure Solution for background. The Duke EHR will create a “one patient, one record” system that will enable Duke providers, in a single view, to see and understand a patient’s treatment history that includes well visits to primary care physicians and other ambulatory providers, as well as any inpatient hospitalizations.
The work related to the implementation of this project has begun and is escalating very quickly. You will see that the Duke specific implementation of this EHR software and technology will be referred to as Maestro Care and you will begin to hear more and more about this project as it is developed over the next few years. It’s important to emphasize that this is a transformational organizational commitment that will ultimately enable significant improvements within our three missions of education, research and clinical care. It is also a project that directly supports the health system’s core value of “Caring for our patients, their loved ones, and each other,” as well as the supporting values of excellence, safety and teamwork.
