Hemming Shares Why You Should Vote

If you haven't already noticed, we are in voting season.  I love the energy of this time of year, though the barrage of advertisements, signs and frantic news coverage always threatens to temper that enthusiasm. Overall, extended early voting dates and times are fantastic for participation and good for our patients.  Numerous health-related decisions at every level of government will hinge on this year's election outcomes.  Our participation as health care providers is essential.

One of my favorite things is when people register and vote for the first time.  Many health care providers report limited time for civic engagement, but early voting can make it easier.

Anyone who’s seen me in clinic in the last 2 months knows that I remind patients, staff and colleagues to vote.  I wear a button on my badge and remind patients in their after visit summary.  Now’s our chance.  Early voting is ongoing at multiple locations in each county in North Carolina.  Look up where your locations are on the North Carolina Board of Elections website.  Register same-day at early voting sites if you need to (bring photo ID and proof of address). Vote early by November 5th, but Election day is Nov 8th.

Happy voting!
