Hirschey receives the Helmholtz Young Investigator Diabetes Award

Photo by Michael Haggenmuller[/caption] Matthew Hirschey, PhD, assistant professor of medicine (Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition), Pharmacology & Cancer Biology and the Sarah W. Stedman Nutrition & Metabolism Center, was awarded the Helmholtz Young Investigator Diabetes Award (HelDi Award) by the Helmholtz Institute in Munich, Germany, and Nature Medicine. Dr. Hirschey presented "The role of the mitochondrial sirtuins in diabetes" at the Helmholtz-Nature Medicine Diabetes Conference in Munich in September and received the HeIDi Award, which recognizes a rising star in the field of diabetes. The conference, in its inaugural year, brings together top leaders in the field of diabetes to facilitate the identification of, and potential solutions to, the preeminent scientific challenges facing the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes.
