From the Director
Hope everyone had some time to enjoy the beautiful weekend. Congratulations to the faculty on (barely!) beating the house staff at the awesome House Staff vs. Faculty basketball game in Cameron Indoor. Great turnout, great skills and all together great time. And no injuries!
We have a big week this week with a PWIM event on MAY 1 in the Med Res Library – come to hear about the careers of new Pulmonary and Critical Care Division Chief Dr. Patty Lee, GI superstar Dr. Anna Mae Diehl, and REACH Equity Director Dr. Kimberly Johnson, and then Friday with Resident Research Grand Rounds and Poster Session with our special guests from the newly formed Duke Medicine Residency Alumni Leadership Council. The Council members will attend Chair’s Conference and hold a panel discussion about career planning immediately following Chair’s Conference. We are excited to see you all at these events!
Please come by and welcome the newest member of our team – Kayla Humphreys! Kayla will start TODAY and serve as our Recruitment Coordinator, as well as administrative lead for the MD PhD recruitment and programming and for the Coaching Program. We are excited to have Kayla join our Med Res Family!
Kudos
Kudos this week go to Godefroy Chery for his excellent Chair’s Conference, to Jess Regan for excellent care from a patient at Duke Regional, to Ben Ranard and Alex Sullivan on their “Good Catch” awards from the Patient Safety team, to Vinay Choksi from the 9100 team for his quick response in an emergency, to Matt Labriola from Mike Grant for going above and beyond to provide care for a veteran, to Nadia Yimer and Cameron Oswalt from Godefroy Chery for excellent work on VA GM, to Erin Frost and Lauren Donnangelo from Kara Wegermann for a superb Med Surg conference, and to Todd Brophy from Janel Norris for his work in the VA CCU “utilizing admission to Cardiac Stepdown on multiple occasions, this week alone. He was very receptive to my quick presentation, and we are already seeing positive gains.”

Threads are ready to go!
Huge thanks go to Winn for his hard work in building out the threads – not only making many adjustments to make life easier this year by factoring in geography and faculty changes, but also tee-ing up some beautiful templates to continue into next year. Winn has been both detail oriented and people oriented throughout this process and we couldn’t have done it without him!!
Morning Report
Beginning in July, the morning report curriculum will cover a robust array of general internal medicine topics and speakers, designed as an 18 month curriculum. Our goal will be to repeat each topic for each of the 3 “+2” groups throughout the year! We are grateful to many medicine and surgical sub-specialty faculty who have stepped up to teach!
Primary Care Immersion
Considering primary care? We’ve designed an immersion block in the SAR year, to give a wide array of gen med clinical experiences, as well as faculty interfaces ranging from QI/leadership to billing and coding and balancing clinical and academic life. The goal is to help you hone in on the type of career you might build. Talk to Dani about your interest if you haven’t already!
