Internal Medicine Residency News, April 8, 2019

From the Director

Mark your calendars! We have the Housestaff-Faculty basketball game on April 26! While I would MUCH rather be watching Duke win tomorrow night and have needed to put off reserving Cameron Indoor, our awesome event there will have to do! Plus, Tre Jones hinted on Insta that he might be coming back next year. Anyway, hope to see you there.

We are making awesome progress on getting our ACGME survey filled out this year. Don’t worry stragglers, there is still time to complete yours this week. SARs, please pay attention to straggling procedures in your procedure log, as well.

Kudos
Kudos this week go to Hannah Dzimitrowicz for her gold star from her DOC patient, to Eric Wei from JP Shoup for amazing citations in his notes, to Dan Turner from JP Shoup for going above and beyond as dayfloat, and to Vinay Choksi and Stephanie Skove MS II for great work on VA GM. Right back at you all from Eric Wei for being great teammates with Vinay as “ready to be a JAR.” To Ryan Ghusayni from 8W nurse Sarah Misrahi for taking time to explain detailed DC instructions to patients. More kudos to Jeremy Brooksbank for an awesome chair’s conference, to Caitlin Driscoll from Jan Dillard for LITERALLY waiting on hold for Jan so that Jan could help another patient, and to Tara Holder for an excellent SAR talk!

Congratulations to Rebecca Ruf on her engagement!

PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to (and first ever resident CNN story) goes to Corey Bradley for her high impact paper J Am Heart Assoc. 2019 Apr 2;8(7):e011765. doi: 10.1161/JAHA.118.011765. Patient-Reported Reasons for Declining or Discontinuing Statin Therapy: Insights From the PALM Registry. Clinic Corner: DOC

Contributed by Lynn Bowlby

Hi all!

Note that the CODE Brown is optional--if you take your own patient back, nursing will do the process of rooming after your visit! Let me know if there are any issues.

Thanks for coming to Town Hall this month...and for doing the clinic survey. The more we know, the more we can advocate for your needs.

A new safety pilot at DOC
Use those flags by each room (developed by Mayo clinic, but that is another story!): Red—behavior concerns of pt or companion. Green—you ordered something, or Jan/Elissa/ Holly etc. coming to see pt, but you are all done so when the “task” is done patient can leave! Give feedback to Jan or myself! Learn more.
