From the Director
Wow! What a week! Congratulations to our senior residents on their amazing fellowship match, and to those who have signed on the dotted line for their fantastic jobs next year! We are so incredibly proud of you and your accomplishments! Can’t stop bragging about you! We had a great time celebrating with you on Wednesday.
And what a holiday party! Y’all looked AMAZING and the chiefs absolutely crushed it with their performance (and their crushed velvet coats!). Many many thanks and kudos from both Anmol Singh and Henry Foote to Talisha Ramchal and Katie Charles for sending their interns to the holiday party, and to Pareseh Roomiany for covering at DRH so the DRH night team could go the party as well!
Kudos
Also thanks and kudos go to our awesome presenters this past week (Robert Diep, applicant report, and Hannah Dzmictrowicz, chairs conference) and to our My Take teams of Dan Maselli, Steph Garbarino, Keva Garg, Shaki Salvador, Ashley Spann and Matt Carlisle as well as our tour guides Bryan Golubski, Irena Tan, Qasim Husseini, Ankeet Bhatt, Annie Reihman, Claire Smith, Sonali Bracken, Becca Lumsden and Juliette Logan. Kudos to Tanya Aylward from Mike Grant for being a really thorough day float and a positive presence on rounds for our team. Kudos to Zach Il’Giovine from Mike Grant for contributing his time to come in late to go over a very complicated patient on call. Kudos to Josh Lee (Jr) for giving patient and his family a very dignified end of life experience.
Special thanks to Becca Lumsden, Amy Lee, Sarah Norton, Megan Lynch, Jen Brophy, Katie Wood, Manisha Bhattacharya for helping last week at the World Relief Refugee, One Table event!
PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Jared Lowe for his manuscript recently published with mentor Tom Leblanc! "A cohort study of patient-reported outcomes and healthcare utilization in acute myeloid leukemia patients receiving active cancer therapy in the last six months of life" in the Journal of Palliative Medicine. Congratulations Jared!
SARs, please now go ahead and register for the BOARDS!
Have a great week!

Clinic Corner: Pickett Road
Contributed by Sharon Rubin
We have started the extended hours for the attendings. Now Pickett is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. most mornings and most evenings. This has been an interesting transition. We are sad to say goodbye to Dr. Metz, who will be joining Duke Signature Care in March 2018. We are happy that Dr. Nastassia Shaw will be starting precepting resident clinic when Dr. Metz departs. Residents are enjoying the LEAD rotation. They have enjoyed learning how to manage patients on Coumadin, teaching first year residents physical exam skills and this week, they will start learning coping skills for depressed patients from our Duke Primary Care Depression managers. We are looking forward to celebrating the holidays with the Pickett Road family and starting the new year.
