Internal Medicine Residency News, Jan. 15, 2018

From the Director

Thank you to everyone for your hard work as the hospitals and clinics are extremely busy.  We are settling in to our last few recruitment days, finishing up the semi-annual meetings and gearing up for making next year’s schedules. Today is also Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. day – if you were unable to see Grand Rounds on Friday from Dr. Kimberly Johnson, please take time to watch it – her talk is outstanding. Click here to watch it.

Clinic Corner: Pickett Road

Contributed by Sharon Rubin

We have started the new year with many positive changes. We are reassigning part of the clinic and moving staff into our open spaces. One space that is being created will be a space for staff on the first floor. To celebrate this change we are planning our first YOGA class for the clinic this month. We are getting a team started to be fit for 2018 and walk more at lunch. More of our residents will be on our Duke Primary Care Website and will be scheduled for their video interview this spring. Lastly we have a clinic bonding dinner planned for the end of the month.

Narrative Medicine

It is time to get pumped for our next Narrative Medicine meeting coming up on Jan. 19! Our first few sessions with Dr. Pisetsky have been incredible, and we are so excited to have Dinushika to precept our next meeting! The prompt will be to write a story from the perspective of one of your patients. This will be a great time to flex our creativity and reflect on the experiences that our patients have. If you are interested in joining us, please send Matthew Labriola an e-mail so we know how many to expect and can plan out  how many narratives can be discussed. We usually meet around 6:30 p.m. and wrap up by 8:30-9 p.m. depending on the numbers. We are limited to 10 participants.
