Internal Medicine Residency News, Jan. 3rd 2022

From the Director

Hello Fam!

Welcome back everyone.  2022, let’s go! While things aren’t where we wish they would be regarding COVID, I am looking forward to an excellent second half of this academic year.  Hope you had an opportunity to rest a bit over the holiday break.  Recruitment starts up again Thursday so let’s finish January STRONG!

Please take a moment to read the IM Res ALL emails about conferences (Virtual), EOHW protocols, mid-year meetings, etc.  As we learn of any changes in how we may need to schedule things, we will keep you informed.

***NOTE Board Prep is now TUESDAY and COVID TOWN HALL is Wednesday.

Congratulations to Andrew and Kathryn Andreae on the birth of Skylar!  Also congratulations to Harsh Patolia on his engagement!

Also congrats to our DukeFam Marc Samsky and Sarah Goldstein on the birth of Wyatt and Ameila over the break!

Please also send a warm welcome to our new member of the Med Res Office Staff, Bridget Copen!

Kudos

Kudos this week to Zach Lorsch from Emory Buck for his work getting care needed for a patient, to Colin Marts for caring for a family after a code in the CICU (from Carter Devlin), to Nate Goodwin from Zach Lorsch for being an above and beyond dayfloat writing DC summaries, to Rachel Tobin and JR Peacock from Sean Taasan for being an all-star VA ICU team and for JR for his “radial first” skills, and right back to Sean from JR for staying late to help out.

Pubmed from the Program

This week’s pubmed from the program goes to our VA Chief Dennis Narcisse for the article “Characteristics and Outcomes of Patients with Diabetes Mellitus Undergoing Peripheral Vascular Intervention for Infrainguinal Symptomatic Peripheral Vascular Disease” in Vasc Endovasc Surg 2021 Feb; 55(2):124-134 with mentors Drs Jenn Rymer, Manesh Patel and Schuyler Jones.  A four chief paper!

Have a great week!
Aimee

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
