From the Chiefs

We hope you are all having a fun start to the year! Word on the street is that our new interns CRUSHED their first rotations!! Likewise, we have heard the highest praise about our JARs and SARs from our interns for being so supportive and selfless to start the year. Thank you all for everything you are doing to care for our patients!

If you have not checked it out yet, we were able to get Blocks 4-6 posted so you all can best plan your lives! Big shout out to Emily Sikes for her amazing work assisting with schedule builds and getting those posted so quickly! Also, please make sure you read through our new ASSIST LIST policies, and for JARs/SARs, please answer the one question survey on how we should approach the ASSIST LIST for the remainder of the year! We hope this helps continue to build upon the already incredible #DukeFamily culture!

Kudos
We love hearing about your greatness, so keep the tacos coming! Kudos this week go to Bari Rosenberg and Annie Cavalier, this week's supreme taco distributors!! To Tareq Aljurf, Sam Rauch, Mike Cosiano, Melanie Cabezas, and Vinay Choksi for their willingness to help out their colleagues this week! Also special shout out to Harsh Patolia from currently pulm fellow and former incredible co-resident of the chiefs Dan Turner for an incredible job rising to the occasion in the MICU to start the year. Additional kudos to the Duke Night Float squad of Rabab Ali, Joyce Hwang, Felicia Cao, and Joe Wawrzynski for exceptional work overnight from the day teams. And to just re-hash some tacos, Chris Azuzu is still a boss and Trent Wei is still enthusiastic!

PubMed from the Program
Congratulations to Ahmad Mourad for his publication in the Journal of Cardiac Surgery, "Surgical infection prophylaxis prior to left ventricular assist device implantation: A survey of clinical practice." Well done, Ahmad!

Have an awesome week!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
