From the Residency Office
The REACH Health Equity Center is offering funding for resident research
The Research Scholars Development Program supports health disparities research and is a funding opportunity for residents and fellows. Trainees are required to work with a faculty mentor to develop a research proposal to bring together faculty across disciplines who have a common interest in addressing racial and ethnic disparities in the clinical encounter. Applications are due Sept. 3. Funding begins in October.
Medical Education Leadership Track
The Office of Graduate Medical Education is excited to announce a new education opportunity for trainees PGY2 and above. The new Medical Education Leadership Track (MELT) is designed for trainees who would like to strengthen their skills as educators. The MELT curriculum will consist of 10 interactive workshops over the course of the academic year. Each session will allow participants to practice the skill discussed and receive feedback on how to improve. Co-curricular content will be housed and disseminated via an online platform. Participants are expected to attend at least 7 of the 10 sessions to receive a certificate.
If you are interested in participating, please complete the attached application and email it to Kate McDaniel (katherine.mcdaniel@duke.edu) by Monday, July 9. Enrollment decisions will be made by July 31 and the first session will be held Aug. 23.
Patient Safety and Quality Council
The first PSQC meeting for this year will be Wed., July 11 at 6 p.m. in the MedRes Library. Dinner will be provided. No worries if you can only join briefly or have to come late- just let us know so that we can have enough food for you!
Please RSVP by clicking here: http://evite.me/H6NzrcR4g6, or if you can’t come but are interested in staying involved, email john.shoup@duke.edu!
Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
