It’s MATCH WEEK! Super excited to finally (albeit virtually) meet the newest members of the Duke Family this Friday on Match Day! Clearly a remarkable year since our current interns matched, although it feels both shorter and longer at the same time. We look forward to sharing the match list with everyone on Friday afternoon!

2022-23 Chief Resident for Quality and Safety (CRQS)
This position is open to those who would be either PGY-4s or PGY-5s during that year (you can consider applying if you are either a current JAR or SAR). If you are a SAR, you should check with your fellowship program director (if applicable) to make sure they are willing to release you for the year to join us. For those interested, the next step is to contact Govind Krishnan or Joel Boggan to express interest and learn a bit more about the position. We will schedule face to face (zoom to zoom?) meetings and informational sessions so that you can learn more in the next few weeks.
Symposium on Spirituality, Religion, and Mental Health
On the afternoon of Tuesday, March 16, from 2-5 p.m., most of the Duke psychiatry residents, as well as any interested faculty, trainees, chaplains, or students at Duke, the Durham VA, and Central Regional Hospital, will participate in an afternoon virtual Symposium on Spirituality, Religion, and Mental Health. The event (with schedule embedded in the attached link) will include training on taking a spiritual history, consideration of clinical challenges related to religion and mental health, a panel of local interfaith community leaders, and a panel of health care chaplains. The goal of the event is to promote richer mutual understanding among clinicians, chaplains, and faith leaders, and to explore how this understanding might lead to productive communication and collaboration around patient care.

Advance Care Planning RCT Trial on Inpatient Medicine
Advance Care Planning Notifications in Duke University Hospital General Inpatient Medicine is a cluster randomized controlled trial evaluating the impact of and response to advance care planning notifications to clinicians caring for patients hospitalized with serious illnesses. This is a continuation of the Advance Care Planning (ACP) QI project on Hospital Medicine. In the QI project, clinicians received email and page notifications for patients at high-risk of death in 30 days and 6 months. As part of the study, clinicians will be automatically enrolled and randomized into a control or intervention arm. The intervention arm will receive notifications for patients at high risk of death in 30 days and 6 months. The control arm will not receive notifications. In either arm, clinicians will determine if a patient is appropriate for an ACP discussion. If a discussion is completed, it can be documented in the advance care planning note in the EHR, and a billing code (99497 and 99498) can be applied. All resources, including palliative care consultation, are available at the clinician’s discretion. Participation is voluntary. All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members.
