From the Director

OMG! I am recovering still from my v-tach induced by Duke’s game yesterday. Seriously, took a few years off my life. Otherwise, I hope you all had some chance to enjoy the first sunny weekend in seemingly decades!

A few catch up items before the kudos …. SARs, please continue to ensure that you are completing your procedure logs! If you have not yet registered for the ABIM exam (aka “the Boards”), now is an excellent time to do so. JARs, it has been great meeting with you about fellowship planning – please sign up with Ernest if you have not already done so. 

Everyone, please remember to fill out your ACGME survey! If you have any questions, please ask me, an APD or the chiefs.

Kudos
Kudos this week go to MICU crew of Dennis Narcisse, Jeremy Brooksbank, Lauren Donnangelo, Tamara Saint Surin, and Nancy Yang from Anmol Singh for being amazing MICU teammates, and VA kudos all around from Sean Chen to Madhu Eluri for being an amazing JAR and to Matt Carlisle and Tanmay Gokhale for their help overnight with a VERY sick patient, and then from Madhu right back to Sean for his great work, and to Matt and Tanmay for their help! Love it. Also kudos to Sonali Bracken and Daphne Xiao for bookending the week with two awesome Chair’s Conferences, to Nathan Moulton from the 2 psych interns (Sara Feizi and Lauren Morris) for his great teaching and creating a positive and collaborative team culture, and kudos from Kenya to Tara Holder, Courtney Lamberton and Erin McGuire for amazing work on their GH rotation!

A special kudos to Tamara Saint Surin on her nomination for the Michelle Winn Inclusive Excellence Award and to former chief resident Dinushika Mohottige for winning the Michelle Winn Inclusive Excellence Award. We are very proud of you!

Clinic Corner: Ambulatory

Morning Report
Beginning in April, morning report will be scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday only. We are also bringing in more general internal medicine topics and speakers, with plans for a comprehensive GIM ambulatory curriculum to complement the sub-specialty curriculum in academic half day, beginning in July. Stay tuned!

GIM Resident Research Award
The Division of General Internal Medicine is pleased to announce its second annual GIM Resident Research Award! Please see details below. Applications will be accepted through April 5, 2019. The top selected investigator will be invited to present their work at a DGIM event in May 2019 and will receive a $500 honorarium. Funding opp: Faculty-Resident Research Grant
We are pleased to invite you to apply for the 2019 annual Faculty-Resident Research Grant applications. The applications are due on April 1, 2019 for a funding start date on July 1, 2019. For JARs, the funding end date is June 30, 2020. For Interns, the funding end date is June 30, 2021. All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members.
