Internal Medicine Residency News, May 11, 2020

From the Director

Time continues to fly by here in May! Next week we revert back to more ‘typical’ schedules on many rotations, with full return to ‘typical’ on June 1.  I am enjoying meeting (even if virtually) with the SARs and preliminary interns as they finish up – it is great to have a chance to talk with each of you.

Many thanks again to our chiefs for tireless work keeping the details of everything running – our virtual conferences and reports are great, with outstanding attendance and participation. Things are also moving along with the fellowship application process for those who are applying this year – please reach out if you have questions or concerns about your application progress.

Just a reminder of some of the best e-resources for learning that I know about: Clinical Problem Solvers podcast and website, as well as their “live” virtual morning report which happens almost daily, Core IM podcast and website, and the Run The List podcast are among my top medical podcasts right now. If you visit med.emory.edu, there is a weekly COVID literature roundup curated by the Emory ID fellows. Lots of good stuff out there.

Kudos
Kudos this week from Qasim Husseini to Bryan Golubski for being an awesome dayfloat, to Callie Berkowitz from Sharon Rubin for her amazing work at Pickett, and to Joe Lerman and Akash Goyal for fantastic SAR talks. And a huge thanks and kudos to Dr. Anne Phelps for her amazing board review sessions.

PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Qasim Husseini for his position piece in Lancet Infectious Diseases – The Dearth of Infectious Diseases Physicians as the USA Faces a Global Pandemic. This certainly hits close to home!

Have a great week,
Aimee

Clinic Corner: Pickett Road

The attendings at Pickett Road are looking forward to the resumption of resident continuity clinic in June. We have greatly appreciated the excellent work residents have provided at our drive-up COVID-19 testing site. We would also like to welcome our new nurse manager Amanda Fisher.
