Now we are digging in to November and getting ready to kick off both the first VIRTUAL STEAD TREAD (although it is the 9th annual Stead Tread) as well as the first ever 100 percent virtual Duke IM Residency Recruitment! Your participation is VITAL to our success! Don’t forget to sign up for all the ways large and small that you can help us recruit the most awesome class for our 2021-22 interns. Crazy!

Duke SCI-StARR Pathway
The Duke SCI-StARR pathway (Science Clinician Investigator - Stimulating Access to Research in Residency) supports protected time funded by an R38 award for research for residents in the Departments of Medicine who are committed to a career as a physician investigator in academic medicine. All Residents in the R38 SCI-StARR program will have a primary research mentor in either laboratory-based basic science research or clinical research. In addition, a Scholarship Oversight Committee (SOC) will meet with each resident in the program at least twice per year and help the trainee create an individualized development plan. Application Deadline: Nov. 30, 2020.
Society of Hospital Medicine NC Triangle Chapter Virtual Job Fair
Please join the SHM North Carolina Triangle Chapter on Mon., Nov. 9, 2020 7-8 p.m. ET for their first-ever "Virtual Job Fair" for aspiring hospitalists! Our goal is to provide a platform for our local hospitalist programs to share what makes them unique. Whether you are interested in staying local or not, our hope is that this event may give you a taste of what these programs can look like both in an academic and community setting. If you're considering a career as a hospitalist, please tune in for this interactive event!
Call for applications: UNC Addiction Medicine Fellowship
The UNC Addiction Medicine Fellowship was founded in 2018 and received ACGME accreditation in April 2019. The fellowship is supported by both the NC Department of Human and Health Services (NC DHHS) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to train 8 Addiction Medicine physicians annually. The vision of the UNC Addiction Medicine Fellowship is to expand capacity for addiction treatment in North Carolina, with emphasis on training physicians in team-based care with an understanding of how to provide high quality addiction treatment to underserved populations. The fellowship is designed to prepare graduates for careers in community-based or academic Addiction Medicine and provides training in team-based care in multiple settings, including detox, pain management, inpatient consults, UNC Horizons (a residential substance use program for pregnant and parenting women), and outpatient treatment. New in 2020, fellows will have a community-telehealth rotation, where they will train at one of five FQHC partnering training sites, providing addiction treatment in community based settings with significant need for OUD treatment. All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources.
