Kudos this week go to Lauren Floyd and Katie Giarra from Irena Tan for being awesome physicians on Duke Gen Med, even going above and beyond (see photo below, captions welcome), to Manisha Bhattacharya for an excellent SAR talk, to Anish Badjatiya for a fantastic Chair’s Conference with great audience participation, to Joe Plaksin from Kara Wegermann and the GM VA JARs for excellent workups in the VA ED, to Kathryn Hutchins from Azalea Kim for being a lifesaver at the DOC on a busy afternoon, to Austin Wesevich from Sarah Rivelli for being overheard checking in with his clinic patients while on an inpatient service, and to Lara Hayes for outstanding and diligent patient care. Kudos to Tara Holder from Dagmara Danek for making every day on Duke Gen med awesome, to Kathryn Hutchins from Bryan Golubski for weekend coverage, and kudos to Ahmad Mourad, whose poster presentation on visual toxicity with voriconazole made the ID week news! And congratulations to Micah Schub on his engagement!
Duke IM Res Alums had a fantastic weekend at their various professional society meetings. Matt Hitchcock won the prestigious “Bug Bowl” trivia competition at ID Week, Darryl Gray won the American College of Gastroenterology’s SCOPY Service Award for Colorectal Cancer Outreach, Prevention & Year-Round Excellence, and Susanna Naggie won the Infectious Diseases Society of America’s prestigious Oswalt Avery Award for outstanding achievement for an investigator 45 years or younger. Way to go Duke IM Alumni!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources.
