From the Director
Thanks to our Stead Leaders for hosting a fun afternoon at Ponysaurus! Kids, dogs, residents, attendings, snacks and drinks – perfect late Sunday afternoon! Don’t forget this week on Wednesday for the MEET DR. COONEY night at Ponysaurus. Many thanks to the ResCo for letting us co-opt the typical Wednesday gathering. See you there!
For those of you who have not experienced a “weather event” in N.C., please pay attention to the memos that come from Duke regarding hurricane preparedness and what we all need to do if severe weather strikes later this week. You will certainly notice that bottled water, bread and toilet paper are scarcer in your local supermarket, but given the current predictions, we should expect some power outages around town and reasonably bad conditions. Above all, we want everyone to be safe, and we will keep you posted on what might happen with “essential personnel” as the weather picture becomes more clear (ugh, bad pun).
Kudos
A belated kudos to Dennis Narcisse from Dan Kaplan for his amazing work on Duke Gen Med covering for a few days, and to Eric Powers from Anmol Singh for caring for a very sick patient and family overnight with skill and grace on 9100. This week’s kudos to Chester Kao from Qasim Husseini for outstanding work on VA Gen Med, to Toi Spates for a great SAR talk on glomerulonephritis, to Chris Pumill for his multi-disciplinary chair’s conference, to Puya Abbassi for being an amazing co-intern and doctor on general neurology from Lena Vaynberg, and to Becca Lumsden who was selected as a Magee Women’s Cardiovascular Health conference attendee!
PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Jordan Gales for his abstract “Severity of Congenital Heart Disease, Not Risk of Acute Coronary Syndrome,Drives Extent of Ischemic Evaluaon for Chest Pain in the Emergency Department" that was recently accepted for presentation at the upcoming American Heart Association meeting!
Have a great week,
Aimee
