From the Director
Hi Everyone!
Way to go Stead Tread! A beautiful day for an amazing race for a phenomenal cause. Those of us on gen med were very sorry to miss it – congratulations to Matt Crowley and the Kempner Society for partnering with Lincoln Clinic to put together this annual event! Winners included faster than lightning Steve Pappas (overall No. 1, and fastest intern), as well as Med Psych cleaning up with fastest female resident Sarah Nelson, and second fastest intern Peter McCann! Many thanks to Steph Garbarino, Todd Brophy, Becca Lumsden and Dan Turner for being the resident organizers!
Turkey bowl practice remains in full swing, so make sure to join everyone if you can on Sundays in Forest Hills Park.
Thank you to all who submitted grants for the Stead Foundation Grant opportunity! Dr. Arcasoy is sending them out for review, and we look forward to celebrating your work soon.
Keep your eye out for several upcoming activities, including the Duke Hospital Wellness Week this week, ResCo BBQ, SAR lunches with Dr. Rogers, networking night for interns and JARs with Dr. Rogers and the Division Chiefs/Fellowship Directors, and more! They just started serving PSLs at Starbucks, so that means DOCTOBERFEST is just around the corner. Can’t wait!
Kudos
Kudos this week go to Ryan Anderson from Jan Dillard for outstanding care during a home visit from the DOC, to Mike Grant for staying late to help at the VA and to Shannon Niedermeyer for being a fantastic cards consult – both from Lindsey Shantzer, to Nate Moulton from Brennan Fitzgerald and the ED team for staying extra hours to cover a shift for a sick ED resident, to Jordan Gales for stepping up to cover next week, and Todd Brophy for covering Jordan’s clinic, to Mike Murn from Ashley Spann for supporting a team member in need, and to Melodi Whitley from Lara Kapp for great work on a busy call night. Additional kudos to Francis Ugowe for an awesome chair’s conference on Friday, with our grads Jess Tucker and Steph Giattino as our expert consultants!
PubMed from the Program
This weeks pubmed from the program goes to Wynn Hunter for his article in the Journal of Oncology Practice, published with mentor Peter Ubel "Discussing Health Care Expenses in the Oncology Clinic: Analysis of Cost Conversations in Outpatient Encounters."
Have a great week!
