Internal Medicine Residency Program celebrates Fellowship Match 2021-22

The Department of Medicine and Duke Internal Medicine Residency Program celebrated the 2021-22 fellowship match today.

“This year’s fellowship match represents the culmination of a tremendous amount of work for our senior residents. I am proud to see them continue the traditions of excellence as they move on to specialty training,” said Kathleen Cooney, MD, MACP, chair of the Department of Medicine.

This year Duke residents matched in 7 subspecialties at 22 different institutions across the country, including 17 who are staying at Duke.

“We are so proud of our residents and our fellowship match. This year’s match was extremely competitive, and the results speak for themselves. Duke residents are not just outstanding physicians but outstanding people," said Aimee Zaas, MD, MHS, program director of the Duke Internal Medicine Residency. "We look forward to watching our fellows grow in their careers and continuing Duke’s tradition of excellence."

We also congratulate the Divisions in the Department of Medicine for attracting a phenomenal group of incoming fellows. Each of the 11 fellowship programs across the Department had a successful fellowship match day. “I’m so proud of our education team for recruiting such a great group of new fellows. Thanks to current fellows, faculty members, the program directors who are such strong advocates for our trainees and programs, and the program coordinators who led our second successful virtual interview season.  I am excited to have identified the new group of fellows we will welcome to Duke for their subspecialty training.” Lisa Criscione-Schreiber, MD, Med, Professor of Medicine, Vice Chair for Education, Duke Department of Medicine.
