Kevin Shah joins department's clinical leadership team

Kevin Shah, MD, MBA, has been appointed to serve as Medical Director for Primary Clinical Services in the Department of Medicine, effective July 1, announced Kathleen Cooney, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine.

This new position will be part of the clinical leadership team led by Chetan Patel, MD, vice chair for clinical affairs.

Dr. Shah is assistant professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine) and he also holds a position in Duke Primary Care (DPC) as associate chief medical officer for innovation and improvement. That position makes him uniquely qualified for this new role in the Department, and his leadership will strengthen our collaboration with DPC and Duke University Health System in improving patient care access.

Shah will work with clinic and service leadership—inclusive of all provider types, clinic staff and division staff—to communicate and promote DPC access initiatives. In addition, he will propose, pilot and implement strategies and tactics to improve access within the Department for DPC patients, and he will partner with clinical leads in the divisions to develop practice guidelines for select diagnoses as part of a broad quality program.

We welcome Dr. Shah to the Department’s leadership team and look forward to his many future contributions.
