E. Magnus Ohman, MD, professor of medicine (Cardiology), has agreed to serve as Vice Chair of Development and Innovation for the Department of Medicine, announced Mary Klotman, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine.
"This is a new position on the Medicine Chair’s leadership team," said Dr. Klotman. "It was created to better manage the Department’s initiatives for financially supporting the Department's educational and research programs through greater philanthropy from individuals, families, foundations and corporations."
Dr. Ohman will meet with each division chief over the next 12 months to develop goals and a philanthropy action plan for each division. He also will be the Department's liaison with the Duke Medicine Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, which oversees all fundraising efforts across the medical center.
DOhman will continue to be the Department’s liaison with Duke Medicine Signature Care, a concierge health care service, and Duke Executive Health, which offers comprehensive health assessments and personalized health and wellness services.
Ohman is the Kent and Siri Rawson Director of the Program for Advanced Coronary Disease, Associate Director in the Duke Heart Center and a senior investigator in the Duke Clinical Research Institute. He earned his M.D. from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He completed his residency in general internal medicine and a research fellowship at Saint Vincents University Hospital in Dublin, then came to Duke in 1987 for fellowship training in Cardiology.
Ohman joined the Duke faculty in 1991, and he has maintained a productive clinical practice and research program, focusing mainly on the management of acute myocardial infarction. Magnus also serves on the Circulatory System Devices Panel of the FDA and the ACC/AHA oversight committee for guidelines development.
