Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Leadership program enrolling for two spring courses

The Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Leadership program is accepting enrollment for two spring courses.

Non-degree seeking students are eligible to enroll in “Quality Measurement and Improvement for Clinical Leaders” and “Leading in a Chaotic Environment,” which both will be offered Jan. 13-April 15. 

Some Duke employees may be eligible for the Duke Employee Tuition Assistance Program.

Course descriptions

CLP 206: Quality Measurement and Improvement for Clinical Leaders

This course covers the current status of health and health care quality in the United States, a review of quality improvement models, and specific quality improvement tools, metrics and techniques.

Key topics include:

Metrics for provider profiling
Patient safety, Payment, Accreditation
Complementary leadership skills needed to implement change
Leadership models and concepts related to quality improvement

This course is recommended for clinical leaders in value-based care environments who desire to know how to measure and improve the results of the care their team delivers.

CLP 204: Leading in a Chaotic Environment

Students will learn perspectives on crisis management in turbulent and complex environments and learn how to anticipate and plan for crises by analyzing examples of successful crisis management. The study of leadership theory and practice will be explored as students examine leadership types and styles, including their own.

Crisis Management
Business Continuity and Recovery Planning
Leadership Theory

Course is recommended for clinical staff who want to learn strategies for successful management of crises and volatility, and those who want to understand their own approach to leadership as well as that of others through the study of leadership theory.
