Pisetsky: On being a doctor

By Anton Zuiker
When a WWII veteran presented him with a list of numbers, David Pisetsky, MD suddenly understood something important about his long-time patient and the generation he represented.
Each time I scheduled Charlie's next appointment, I worried that I would never see him again. The Greatest Generation is dwindling away.
Read Pisetsky's moving essay, Charlie's List, is in the September 2010 issue of Annals of Internal Medicine. Pisetsky also writes the Rheuminations column in the journal The Rheumatologist, for which he received the 2010 bronze award for best regular column from the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors. Pisetsky is professor of medicine (Rheumatology). Have an essay you'd like to share? Contact Anton Zuiker with your observations on being a doctor.
