TO ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR:

Jeannette Stein, MD

Associate Professor in Medicine, effective April 1, 2020

Dr. Stein is a distinguished clinician-educator.  In this regard, she has been an outstanding role model and mentor to a number of the residents and junior faculty.  For Dr. Stein’s clinical duties, she is a clinic preceptor in the Internal Medicine resident continuity clinic at the Durham VA Medical Center and, in this capacity, she teaches and mentors medical residents.  In her own clinic, she continues her two half-day a week practice, providing direct patient care to veterans at the Durham VA Medical Center.

Dr. Stein has established herself as a leading resource in home-based primary care for patients. In this regard, she teaches, mentors and leads others in a multidisciplinary fashion. As Medical Director of the Home Based Primary Care & the Transitional Care Programs at the VA Medical Center, she has implemented home care visits to enhance the curriculum of the Duke Geriatrics fellows & other learners. These interdisciplinary teams provide day-long shadowing experiences for learners, including occupational therapy and physical therapy students, in addition to occupational therapy and physical therapy fieldwork for students.

In addition to her success in the clinical realm, Dr. Stein has been an outstanding mentor and teacher.  Her willingness to help support others as an advisory role is clear. On a national level, Dr. Stein has been recognized as a leader in home-based care. Many of her writings define the level of care that home-based veterans receive. She has authored publications in the Federal Practitioner that have defined the quality of home care and she has become a valuable resource for others in this realm.
