Where can we begin? Posters, oral presentations, gatherings? Everything was inspiring. It was a privilege, too, being around special people such as Dr. Karen DeSalvo, a general internist and Acting Assistant Secretary for Health in the US Department of Health and Human Services.The Duke med students were hot, giving an extremely well received presentation during one of the plenary sessions. Their topic was the “Duke Hotspotting Initiative (DHSI): Integrating Medical education with Community-Based Care Coordination.” We are very proud of the work they have done, the presentation they gave, and the mentoring in the DOC clinic. Kudos also to Dani Zipkin for live tweeting, even showing up within the top 10 for tweet volume. We noticed she engaged the Duke residents in the Ambulatory Care Leadership Tract, too. By the way, they will be seeing Dr. DeSalvo in Washington, DC, soon. Thank you also to all who contributed tweets from @Duke_GIM, especially tips about each presentation from Duke, keeping our attendees informed about time and location.

We think it’s safe to say the 2016 Annual Meeting was a success and we are already looking forward to next year! The 2017 Annual Meeting will take place April 19-22 in Washington, DC. The theme will be “Resilience and Grit: Passion, Perseverance, and Burnout Prevention in GIM.”
