Sullivan receives AGA Research Scholar Award

Brian Sullivan, MDBrian Sullivan, MD, assistant professor of medicine (Gastroenterology) has been awarded the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Research Scholar Award.

The AGA Research Scholar Award is one of the major career development awards from the national GI societies. This three-year award helps to protect 75 percent of his time to dedicate to research. The title of Dr. Sullivan's application is, “Post-colonoscopy Risk Stratification Based on Germline and Somatic Genetic Factors.”

Sullivan plans to use genetic analyses from blood and tissue from the first colonoscopy to determine more effective (personalized) surveillance recommendations. This award is the culmination of several years of hard work through Sullivan’s training and junior faculty time. Sullivan's mentor is Dawn Provenzale, MD. They started working together during residency and so this is another sign of her commitment to mentorship and faculty development.
