Three events honor Nobel Laureate Robert J. Lefkowitz, MD

Mark your calendar: Three events held at Duke University this year will honor Robert J. Lefkowitz, MD, professor of medicine (Cardiology) and 2012 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry.

The School of Medicine will host Basic Science Day on Mon., Nov. 7, and the featured speaker this year is Brian Kobilka, MD, professor of molecular and cellular physiology at Stanford University School of Medicine, who shared the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Dr. Lefkowitz.

Dr. Kobilka will give the Robert J. Lefkowitz, MD, Distinguished Lecture. The title of his presentation is "Structural Insights into the Dynamic Process of G Protein Coupled Receptor Activation."

Registration is required for Basic Science Day, which will be held from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Trent Semans Center. Box lunches will be provided. Learn more and register here.


On Jan. 27, 2017, Medicine Research Seminar Series will host a presentation by Dr. Lefkowitz at noon in Duke Hospital Room 2002. 

Medicine Research Seminar Series is a monthly presentation of outstanding research in the Department of Medicine. The series is designed to foster new initiatives and collaborations among our faculty, fellows and residents. Andrew Alspaugh, MD, coordinates the series.


In May 2017, the Duke Cardiovascular Research Center will host the Duke-Stanford Cardiovascular Research Symposium to honor the Nobel Laureates from each university.

Robert J. Lefkowitz, MD, and Brian Kobilka, MD, who together received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry 2012, will be at the symposium as the event's featured speakers. 

Attendees will experience the exploration of the latest research in cardiovascular signaling, regeneration, metabolomics and genomics, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and personalized medicine.
