Daniella Zipkin, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine (General Internal Medicine) and Director of Duke's Ambulatory Care Leadership Track (ACLT), has recently launched a new GIM Journal Club in an effort to bring GIM faculty together and have more time interacting with residents. The group meets for dinner at a faculty home and then reviews and discusses an article. The ACLT residents take the lead at these sessions. Two residents volunteer to choose the article and lead the discussion.
"The goal of the club is to give GIM a place to gather and interact with residents, as well as bring a scholarly conversation to the ACLT group," says Zipkin.
The recent topics of the journal club included:
October - The value provided by “advanced practice providers” compared to MD’s in primary care
December- The cardiovascular impact of celecoxib compared to naprosyn as non-inferiority
All residents, GIM faculty, inpatient and outpatient, who interface with residents, as well as residency program leadership, are welcome to attend the journal club. If interested in attending, please contact Tia WIlliams. The group plans to meet again in January and March.
