Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a program that would make me the best doctor I could be inside and out, in addition to one that treated my co-residents and I with support and respect. I found that in Duke I have found so much support from a top institution and I'm so glad I matched here!

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
Down to earth, yet excellent clinical training. Very supportive staff and faculty, overall excellent culture to train in.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
Everyone is so nice, supportive, patient and kind. I have had nothing but good experiences so far!

Tell us about your co-residents. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
We have had several events and group messages set up for our class and specific hobbies were interested in. There's also great mentorship and support from upper level residents to help form bonds among every class.

What has surprised you most about Duke?
How down to earth this program is. When coming to a top tier program, you generally worry about being a malignant cut throat program. But it is the opposite here. They have set up a great program with a great culture. I love it!

About Life in Durham

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
You can find anything and everything you need within 30 minutes. The different cities have so much unique vibes and locations to offer and it's very small town feel but has everything you need!

How does the Triangle appeal to people of diverse backgrounds?
There's all sorts of different cultures and venues to support people of any background. I still have a lot to explore!

Where did you choose to live and why?
I am living in Morrisville. It is in between Cary and Durham so my fiance and I travel similar distances to work. I have everything i need within close distance and i prefer being out of the city!

What are your interests outside of medicine?
I'm a drummer, I play video games and I'm an animal lover!
