My long-term goal is to become an expert in cancer-associated thrombosis with a specific focus on anticoagulation in high-risk patients. My previous experiences have laid the foundation to become a leader as a clinical trialist investigating novel anticoagulants to optimize safer anticoagulation.

Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a fellowship program?
I was interested in a fellowship program that would continue to build upon my clinical and research foundation built in residency. I was looking to work with experts in my field of interest.

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
The strength of this program is that Duke will mold the fellowship to your career goals. During the second and third years, a fellow is able to create a schedule that fits the career you have for yourself. Whether it is a clinical or research heavy schedule, Duke will support you in your interest and ensure one is beyond prepared for a career in that field.

What has surprised you most about Duke?
I was pleasantly surprised how helpful and supportive all the faculty are in the fellows learning. All my interactions, either on the inpatient wards, staffing consults, or in the clinic, have been positive with a heavy emphasis on the learning within each case.

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
We love the range that North Carolina has, especially in the Triangle. My wife and I can drive 2 hours and we are in the mountains hiking, or we can drive 2 hours and we are at the beach. Additionally, within a 1.5 hour driving radius, there are 4 major ACC universities, so there is a game or show to watch. The triangle is constantly growing and we are always exploring new food venues or breweries to try.

About Life in Durham

What advice would you give to someone looking to move to Durham?
We have found living in Durham a very enjoyable experience. There are a ton of new-builds developments if one is looking to buy and similarly a plethora of new apartments downtown if someone is looking to rent. Please reach out to someone in our program for a real estate agent recommendation to ensure you find a place you can love.

What are your interests outside of medicine?
We love exploring hiking trials with our dog, Rosie. We additionally enjoy going to the Durham Bulls AAA baseball games or Duke basketball games. In the fall, we join our neighbors and catch an NC State football game as well. Always something to keep busy.
